Review of A Christmas Date

A Christmas Date is an contemporary holiday romance novella by L.C. Zingera. When tall aloof business executive Lucas Hart and small voluptuous florist Angelina Makepeace are thrown together on a surprise blind date by their crazy matchmaking friends, they are both equally horrified. They have absolutely nothing in common. But when wintry weather and circumstances beyond their control repeatedly place them in each other’s path during the holiday season, they begin to realize that their friends might not be quite so crazy after all.

I have to admit I’m a sucker for a good Christmas themed romance. You get all your love and joy and warm fuzzies all rolled up into one.

A Christmas Date was a very short story, probably one of the shortest I’ve ever reviewed on this site, coming in at under 10,000 words. However short isn’t always bad. Sometimes you can find a real gem in those novellas and I thought for a moment there I had one. However the ending of this story really just flat out ruined it for me. As I’ve said before, I hate hate hate stories that go from I just met you to let’s run off and get married in one giant leap.

You know there is a reason why there is a 60% divorce rate in America and stories like that only serve to remind us of that fact. I’m all for a sweet love story or love at first site but this story doesn’t really even give us that. It’s just like meet, talk a few times (kind of) and bam – let’s get married. Seriously ruined the whole story for me.

Had there been any romance or heck even a single date I might have overlooked some of this foolishness, but the author didn’t even give us that. Instead it was more like, I want what my friend has, I want to be married and you are the closest chick so you’ll do.

I don’t know about you but when I read a romance novel, I want some romance. I want my characters to meet and fall in love, not meet and say hey let’s go get married … sure I don’t really know you and you don’t know me but what the hell, YOLO.

It was a major let down of an ending to what otherwise could have been a really good Christmas romance.
